Business Process Reengineering or Modeling
Government Agencies are striving to become transparent. By putting information about their operations and decisions online they can meet the new administration’s mandate of openness and transparency in the Federal Government. Agencies are looking for ways to better reuse and integrate their business processes and data. Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and Business Process Modeling (BPM) are cornerstones to facilitate this transition.

Through BPR, we help you rethink and redesign your business processes to meet mission critical requirements while improving your programs’ efficiency and transparency. More...
Data Architecture and Data Modeling
There is now more emphasis on how agencies show that their IT investments support their mission, strategic goals and objectives. As a result, many agencies are looking at Data Architecture to determine how their data is really used by the business. Data Architecture can be used to guide cross-system developments, such as Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), common reporting, and data warehousing (DW) initiatives.
Through our Data Architecture and Data Modeling services, we help you to:
  • Identify ways to reuse data through data sharing
  • Move away from managing data in silos
  • Look for opportunities to reduce redundancy and increase data quality
  • Establish and maintain data management strategy, data quality strategy, and Authoritative Data Sources (ADS)
  • Develop an adoption process
  • Focus on "what could be" and help you achieve desired or "target" state. More...
Database Administration
Database Administration (DBA) focuses on the physical attributes associated with data access, storage, retrieval and security. These attributes play a role in meeting the new administration’s goals for Federal Agencies. More...

Our Business Process Reengineering and Business Process Modeling Services
We provide end-to-end Business Process Engineering (BPR) and Business Process Modeling (BPM), encompassing:
  • Documenting your current and target business processes
  • Performing a gap analysis
  • Developing transition and implementation plans
Our methodology uses an agile approach to document all the steps of your major business processes. Using the tool of your choice, we will document your business processes and annotate them in Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN). Your documents are reviewed, face-to-face meetings are conducted, and a strawman is developed to get early consensus on models.
We ask probing questions, such as:
  • How do resources, work, and information flow through each process?
  • What are the strategic processes?
  • What are the business break points?
  • What are the underlying business and technology assumptions?
  • What are key benchmarks for measuring performance against "best of breed"?
  • What are specific improvement goals?
We also support the development, documentation and integration activities required to implement the new business process model into your current business environment. Our certified Organization Change Management (OCM) SMEs can help you identify impacted areas within your agency (e.g., workforce, infrastructure, procedures), promoting a smooth implementation.
How do you know if the BPR effort was a success? We work closely with you to identify performance metrics and measure if the new business processes bring tangible operational results (e.g., cost and time savings).
Our BPR/Modeling Domains:
  • Health Care
  • Telecommunications

Our Data Architecture and Data Modeling Services
Our Data Architecture Services
We have a methodology that enables us to provide data architecture services that support "top down" or "middle-out" approaches. It allows us to focus on the data requirements of specific system interfaces and rationalization exercises. We address specific tactical and strategic requirements and provide a cross-check to data analysis.

From experience we know that modeling the "as is" data architecture is useful and often highlights areas for improvement. For future enhancements other factors need to be considered, such as data collection, usage and governance.
We facilitate meetings with stakeholders and the IT department to:
  • Establish guidelines/principles about how the enterprise aims to collect, manage and use data
  • Develop data architecture, including "as is" and "to be" models
  • Develop governance rules and change control processes for the data architecture
  • Develop policies for data management in each business area that identify:
  • What data is stored and for how long
  • Who is responsible for data collection and quality
  • Who controls the data and who administers it
  • How long the data must be stored
  • How the data will be disposed of or archived
  • Who may have access to the data
  • How data should be disclosed to external parties
  • Classify information and associated risks to define appropriate security measures
  • Identify and adopt industry standards for common data models
  • Develop organizational standards accordingly
Our Data Modeling Services
Conceptual Data Model (CDM). We support building conceptual or domain models. On agile teams, high-level conceptual models are created as part of the initial requirements envisioning. On traditional teams, conceptual data models are created as the precursor to Logical Data Models.
Logical Data Model (LDM). LDMs depict the entity types, the data attributes describing those entities, and the relationships between the entities. We develop LDMs of your problem domain to explore the concepts and their relationships.
Physical Data Model (PDM). We develop PDMs to design the internal schema of a database, depicting the data tables, the data columns of those tables, and the relationship(s) between the tables. PDMs often prove to be useful on both agile and traditional projects.
Our methodology is both flexible and effective. Activities in our data modeling methodology include:
  • Identify data objects and relationships
  • Draft the initial Entity Relationship (ER) diagram
  • Add key and non-key attributes to the ER diagram
  • Diagram generalization hierarchies
  • Validate the model through normalization
  • Add business and integrity rules to the model
These activities result in a solid data model that represents the requirements of your end users. Our models eliminate redundant data, and hardware and software constraints, and provide the ability to adapt to changing requirements with minimal effort.
Our Data Architecture/Data Modeling Domain Areas:
  • Health Care
  • Telecommunications
